From Wartime Gupo to Gwangalli Beach

"A bowl of marsh clam broth simmered with unwavering care, carrying seven decades of Busan's coastal morning comfort."

Halmae Jaecheobguk began its journey during the Korean War in Gupo, where fresh marsh clams harvested along the Nakdong River estuary were simmered into clean, restorative broth for working neighbors and travelers.

For over twenty years, the Busan Main Store has stood steps from Gwangalli Beach, faithfully preserving the southern coastal tradition. Every morning table is anchored by generous marsh clam soup, house-made rustic soybean paste, freshly steamed kale wraps, and savory braised mackerel with radish.

The Clear Marsh Clam Broth

Begin by savoring the pristine marsh clam soup at natural temperature. Simmered until cloudy and golden, it is generously topped with fresh chopped chives that add herbal lightness.

Local Tip: Add a pinch of sliced cheongyang peppers if you prefer a subtle spicy warmth.

Observations from the Morning Tables

Reflections from travelers, morning diners, and long-time regulars visiting our Gwangalli Main Store.

The set meal at 12,000 KRW provides incredible value. The broth is clearer and cleaner than ordinary clam soup, and adding fresh cheongyang peppers gives it a pleasant spicy accent. The seaweed bibimbap and soybean paste pairing is unbeatable.

I came here after seeing food documentaries and was not disappointed. Every side dish uses quality ingredients with no filler. The steamed kale wraps paired with fermented anchovy sauce and the fragrant sesame oil in the bibimbap linger in memory.

I have visited since the days when the set was 8,000 KRW. Given today's prices, 12,000 KRW for this entire spread with braised mackerel and boundless side dishes is a rare gift. The soup remains comforting and pristine.
